Lifeline Assitance Programs

On December 2, 2016 the FCC made several changes to the Lifeline Assistance Program including, but [not] limited to, adding Broadband as a supported service and phasing down the amount of Lifeline support for stand-alone [Voice] {or Telephone} service. Eligible households may apply the monthly Lifeline Program discount to either Broadband service or [Telephone] {or Voice} service, but not both.

NEW Broadband Lifeline Assistance Program

The new Broadband Lifeline Assistance Program provides a monthly credit for broadband based services provided to qualified Smart City Telecom residential customers. Qualified Smart City Telecom residential customers will receive a maximum credit of $9.25 per month on their statement. The following broadband based services will qualify for the new Broadband Lifeline Assistance Program:

• Broadband service only: refers to a residential customer who has a data service only with a minimum speed of up to 10Mbps down/up to 1 Mbps up; no telephone service is required

• Broadband service bundled with telephone service: refers to a residential customer who has a data service with a minimum speed of up to 10Mbps down/up to 1Mbps up that is bundled with a telephone line

In order to receive the Broadband Lifeline Assistance credit, Customers must also qualify by receiving benefits from any of the following programs:

• Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
• Medicaid
• Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8 )
• Food Stamps
• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
• Bureau of Indian Affairs programs
• Household income no more than 150% of the U.S. Poverty Guidelines
• Veteran’s pension or Survivor’s pension benefits
