To All Customers of Smart City Telecom:
The Florida Public Service Commission designated Smart City Telecom as the “Eligible Telecommunications Carrier” or “ETC” for our two (2) local service areas of Lake Buena Vista and Celebration, Florida for universal service purposes. The goal of universal service is to provide all citizens access to essential telecommunications services.
Smart City Telecom provides supported services…voice telephony service and broadband Internet access service throughout its designated service area. These supported services include:
- Voice grade access to the public switched network;
- Minutes of use for local service provided at no additional charge;
- Access to emergency services provided by local government or other public safety organizations, such as 911 and enhanced 911, to the extent the local government in Smart City Telecom’s service area has implemented 911 or enhanced 911 systems;
- Broadband Internet access service which includes the capability to send data to and receive data from the Internet, but excludes dial up service
Smart City Telecom’s voice telephone service for single party residential (with unlimited local usage) and business service for rates which start at $23.40 and $23.00 per month for residential customers in Lake Buena Vista and Celebration, and $18.03 per month for business line customers in Lake Buena Vista and $25.56 per month for business line customers in Celebration.
Smart City Telecom also offers Lifeline service to qualified customers. Lifeline is a non-transferable, federal benefit that makes monthly telephone or broadband service more affordable. The program is limited to one (1) discount per household. Eligible households may apply the monthly Lifeline discount to either home or wireless (i) broadband service, or (ii) voice service, but not both. Lifeline customers also have the option to apply the discount to a service bundle, such as home telephone and home Internet. The Lifeline voice service also includes toll blocking to qualifying customers without a charge. Based on the income-related eligibility criteria described below, you may qualify for this program.
The current discount provided under Smart City Telecom’s Lifeline service is $9.25 per month for qualifying services for each month that the customer qualifies. Customer’s that subscribe to voice-only service or a bundle with broadband that does not meet the minimum service standards will receive a discount of $5.25. A household is eligible for the Lifeline discount if the customer’s annual household income is at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines. You may also qualify for the Lifeline program if a customer, a dependent, or someone in the household participates in one of the following federal assistance programs: Medicaid; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP))formerly known as Food Stamps); Supplemental Security Income (SSI); Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8); Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit. In addition, if you are no longer eligible for Lifeline, Smart City offers Transitional Lifeline service which is a discount program that will continue for one (1) year after you no longer qualify for the regular Lifeline program.
